Sock School:

First Sock

Four sessions over five weeks. Small-group teaching in Houston Heights. Max 4 students.

What You Will Learn

WEEK 1

PATTERN, SIZE AND SWATCH

Before casting on, we get to know the pattern, choose your size, and try out needles methods. Then we swatch: it is the foundation everything else builds on.

WEEK 2

CAST ON AND CUFF

Your first stitches on the needles. You will work a stretchy cast on, join in the round, and build your cuff ribbing. Loan needles are available this session while you source your own.

WEEK 3

THE HEEL AND THE FOOT

The section most knitters worry about before they have done it. We work through the heel together, then move straight into the foot.

BREAK

PRACTICE WEEK

No class this week. Use the time to work through the foot at your own pace and arrive at Week 4 ready to finish.

WEEK 4

TOE AND GRAFT

You arrive ready to shape and close the toe. We learn the final techniques to finish the sock, cover blocking and talk about where to go from here.

About Jane

I am Jane Kramers, and New Heights Yarn is my one-woman atelier in Houston Heights. I teach small groups because that is where real learning happens: enough people to spark good conversation, few enough that no one gets left behind. My approach is options, not rules. Every technique comes with context, so you leave understanding not just what to do, but why it works.
